Steve Harvey Biopic: 72-Hour Journey to Apollo Theatre Fame

Steve Harvey Biopic in the Works: ‘Seventy-Two’ to Explore Pivotal Moment in Comedian’s Early Days

A biopic about the life of renowned comedian and TV host Steve Harvey is in the works, according to Deadline. The film, titled "Seventy-Two," will explore a pivotal moment in Harvey’s early days, ahead of a career-defining performance at the legendary Apollo Theatre in 1993.

The 72-hour period at the center of the film finds Harvey at the age of 36, a decade after quitting his traditional job for a comedy career. During this time, he confronted a period of self-doubt and personal struggles, as reported by Deadline.

"I’ve been reluctant to make a movie about my life for years, until I read the pitch for ‘Seventy-Two’," Harvey explained. "It focuses on one of the most difficult moments in my journey and career, and shows the world that hope is never truly lost. Wait until you see what we do with this."

Producers Mohamed Kheir and Matthew R. Cooper of Objectively Good Media conceptualized and presented the idea to Harvey, who has given his seal of approval. A writer is not yet attached to the project.

"Securing the rights to tell this story has been an incredible honor," Kheir said. "Steve Harvey’s ability to turn his trials into triumphs is inspiring, and ‘Seventy-Two’ will showcase the resilience and determination that defined those pivotal days. We look forward to sharing this powerful narrative with audiences worldwide."

As one of the Original Kings Of Comedy, Harvey’s persistence has paid off, with a lauded career as an actor, stand-up performer, host, and author, earning seven Daytime Emmy Awards, a BET humanitarian award, and fourteen NAACP Image Awards among a long list of honors and credits.

The film is expected to provide a unique glimpse into Harvey’s life, highlighting his struggles and triumphs, and showcasing his ability to turn adversity into success.
