Lagos Building Ablaze: Fire Guts Three-Storey Building in Ogba Area

BREAKING: Fire Rages through Lagos Government Staff Quarters Building

A devastating fire has left destruction in its wake at the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters in Odunsanmi Street, off Wempco Road, in the Ogba area of Lagos State. The blaze gutted part of a three-storey building in the early hours of Friday.

According to a statement by Dr. Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the agency received distress calls through its toll-free emergency lines (767 and 112) at about 2:39 am. The response team from the Alausa command and control centre was quickly activated to tackle the blaze.

An investigation by the agency’s response team revealed that the fire originated from the children’s room of Flat 5, Block 21, due to a power surge. The prompt and coordinated efforts of LASEMA, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service ensured the fire was contained, although not before it had caused significant damage.

Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries or loss of life. However, the fire completely consumed the children’s bedroom, resulting in the loss of properties valued at millions of naira. The agency has also taken the opportunity to educate the building’s occupants on the proper use of electrical appliances.

The incident serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of fire safety and prevention measures, particularly in densely populated urban areas. As the investigation continues, the residents of the affected building are no doubt left to pick up the pieces and rebuild their lives.
