Alan Shearer Urges Manchester United to Sign Ivan Toney Before Transfer Deadline

Manchester United Urged to Sign Brentford Striker Ivan Toney by Newcastle United Legend Alan Shearer

In a surprising move, Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has called on Manchester United to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney before the end of the transfer window on Friday night. Shearer, a legendary figure in the world of football, believes that Toney would be an excellent addition to Erik ten Hag’s side.

"I like Ivan Toney," Shearer told Betfair. "I think he can do a really good job for someone – he’s an excellent player." Shearer expressed surprise that Manchester United have not yet made a move for the talented striker, suggesting that there may be something brewing behind the scenes that the public is not yet aware of.

Toney has been in impressive form for Brentford this season, scoring 14 goals in 23 appearances. His pace, power, and clinical finishing ability have made him a standout player in the Premier League. Shearer believes that these qualities would make him a valuable asset for Manchester United, particularly in their forward areas.

Manchester United have struggled to find consistency in their attack this season, with Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount often being deployed as false nines. Shearer thinks that Toney would be a better option, stating, "I thought they were poor in forward areas against Brighton and without Hojlund – I know they have signed Zirkzee – but they are playing Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount as two false nines and up to now, I’m not sure that’s worked for them. I think Ivan Toney would be a really good option for them."

With the transfer window closing on Friday night, Manchester United may need to act quickly to secure Toney’s signature. Will they take Shearer’s advice and make a move for the talented striker? Only time will tell.
