Meta’s Llama AI Models Gain Popularity among Businesses
Meta’s Llama Artificial Intelligence (AI) models have gained significant traction among businesses, with almost 350 million downloads since they were made publicly available last year. The mostly free-of-charge models are being used by companies such as Goldman Sachs and AT&T for various business functions, including customer service, document review, and computer code generation.
The increased adoption of Llama models comes as Meta and other tech companies invest heavily in AI, raising questions about the widespread adoption of the technology and the potential payoff for investors. Meta’s Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg believes that building state-of-the-art AI models and making them available for free positions the company to avoid being constrained by competitors’ closed technology.
While large language models like Llama have impressed users with their ability to generate human-like prose, they still struggle with certain logical tasks and are prone to factual errors, limiting their adoption in business contexts. Despite these limitations, Meta has pointed to the use of Llama models by several large enterprises, including Japanese bank Nomura Holdings, food delivery service DoorDash, and professional services provider Accenture, as evidence of their utility and competitiveness with paid alternatives.
The use of cloud providers like Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure has also increased, more than doubling between May and July this year, according to Meta. This growth indicates a growing demand for AI-powered solutions in the business world, with companies seeking to leverage the technology to improve efficiency and competitiveness.
As Meta continues to develop and refine its Llama AI models, it remains to be seen how widespread their adoption will be. However, with the company’s commitment to making the technology available for free and its growing popularity among businesses, it is clear that Llama is an AI model worth keeping an eye on.
