Terrorist Ambush Foiled by Vigilante Group and Community Protection Guard in Nigeria
In a daring ambush, a combination of the Community Protection Group, vigilante members, and armed residents in two communities in Zamfara State, Nigeria, successfully repelled a terrorist attack on Tuesday. The bandits, who were attempting to raid the community of Matuzgi, were met with fierce resistance from the local vigilante group and the state’s Community Protection Guard (CPG).
According to eyewitnesses, 35 bandits were killed in the initial confrontation, with residents claiming that the terrorists were caught off guard by the vigilante group and CPG. Soldiers later arrived on the scene and joined the fight, forcing the bandits to retreat from Matuzgi.
In a nearby community, Magamin Diddi, 10 more bandits were killed as they fled from the fight at Matuzgi. Unfortunately, three villagers in Matusgi lost their lives in the attack.
A vigilante member, who spoke to PREMIUM TIMES on condition of anonymity, revealed that the group received information about the impending attack around 2 pm and quickly mobilized to confront the bandits. "We waited for them until they were very close to the community and then we engaged them," the source said.
A security agent posted to Talata Mafara confirmed the killing of terrorists, but was unsure of the exact number killed, citing the bandits’ practice of taking away the corpses of their own members.
The police spokesperson in Zamfara, Yazid Abubakar, has yet to comment on the incident.
