Sultan Foundation Donates N1.7 Billion Worth of Drugs and Consumables to Sokoto and Kebbi Governments

The Sultan Foundation for Peace and Development (SFPD) has made a significant donation to the governments of Sokoto and Kebbi states, providing essential drugs and consumables worth N1.7 billion. The foundation, a non-profit and non-governmental organization under the leadership of the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, aims to complement the efforts of the states’ ministries of health in delivering quality healthcare services, particularly to women and children.

The donated items, received from MAP International, a U.S.-based global health organization, include lifesaving medicines and health supplies. The foundation expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for waiving customs duties worth N254 million to facilitate the importation of the donated commodities into the country.

SFPD Coordinator, Muhammad Mera, handed over the items to the Sokoto and Kebbi state governments, urging them to distribute the medicines and supplies to hospitals and clinics for the benefit of deserving patients and other beneficiaries in the states. He also expressed optimism that more states would benefit from the donation.

The Sokoto State Government representative, Umar Attahiru, Director-General of the Sokoto state Drugs and Medical Supplies Management Agency (DMSMA), appreciated the foundation for the donation and commended the good leadership of Sultan Abubakar for attracting such efforts. He assured the foundation that the items would be properly used to benefit the populace.

The Kebbi State Government representative, Dr Shehu Nuhu-Koko, Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Health, described the drugs and consumables as essential needs to the population, stressing that they would have a positive impact on the lives of citizens, particularly pregnant women and children across the states.

The handing over ceremony was witnessed by several dignitaries, including the Galadiman Garin Sokoto, Attahiru Aliyu-Galadanchi, Muhammad Lawal Maidoki Sadaukin Sokoto, the Chairman of Sokoto State Zakkat and Waqaf Commission, and Aminu Inuwa Muhammad, Director Programmes of the Sultan Foundation.
