Gmail Q&A Feature Brings AI-Powered Inbox Search to Android Users
Google has just rolled out a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature for its Gmail app on Android, allowing users to search their inbox with ease. Dubbed Gmail Q&A, this Gemini-powered feature is specifically designed for Google Workspace users, who can now ask Gemini to search for specific information from their emails in the inbox.
According to Google’s blog post, users can access the feature by signing into their Google Workspace account and tapping on the black Gemini star at the top-right of the app or by tapping on the "summarise this email" chip when inside an email thread. Once activated, users can ask Gemini questions like "How much did the company spend on the last marketing event?" and the AI will scour the inbox to find the answer.
In addition to searching information from emails, the feature also allows users to see unread messages, view messages from a specific sender, or summarize emails. Google has also hinted that the AI feature will be able to find information from files and documents saved in Google Drive in the future.
The feature has already been rolled out, but it may take up to 15 days for all Workspace users to have access. To use the feature, users must have subscribed to one of the following add-ons: Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, Education Premium, or Google One AI Premium.
Google has also rolled out Gemini extensions for Google Keep and Google Tasks, which are available to Workspace users. These extensions will allow users with Pixel 9 series smartphones to access the two apps directly within the Gemini app using text prompts.
This new feature is expected to make Gmail a more efficient and productive email client, especially for users who have a large number of emails in their inbox. With the power of AI on their side, users can now quickly find the information they need and get back to their day.
