Caribbean Music Awards: A Night to Remember in Brooklyn

The 2024 Caribbean Music Awards took place on August 30th at the iconic Kings Theater in Flatbush Brooklyn, New York. This prestigious event honored the region’s most talented artists, producers, and industry professionals, and it was a night to remember.

Hosted by Queen of Dancehall Spice and comedian Majah Hype, the event saw an impressive lineup of performances from across the Caribbean, including Trinidad’s Ravi B, Barbados’ Leadpipe x Jus-Jay, and St. Vincent & the Grenadines’ Skinny Fabulous. The evening also featured a special appearance by the talented DJ Cassidy, who presented alongside Melyssa Ford.

Among the notable winners was Skinny Fabulous, who took home three awards, including two for his collaboration with Trinidad’s Nailah Blackman and the Male Soca Artist of the Year award. Accepting his second award, he thanked the audience, saying, "Sometimes, when you come from a little, tiny place, you’re surrounded by geography that tells you you should have tiny dreams. But, I believe in myself, I believe in Soca music, I believe in the people."

Other winners included Shaggy, Patrice Roberts, Asa Banton, and Dexta Daps, who all dazzled the crowd with their performances. The honorees for the evening included Ravi B, Alison Hinds, Cedella Marley, Marcia Griffiths, Sherwin Gardner, and Mighty Sparrow, among others.

The Caribbean Music Awards are a celebration of the region’s rich cultural heritage and the talents that have emerged from it. As Queen of Dancehall Spice noted, "All Caribbean nations deserve recognition," and this event provided the perfect platform for that recognition.
