APGA Factional Chairman Dismisses Crisis Impact on Soludo’s Re-election

Sylvester Ezeokenwa, the factional Chairman of the All Grand Progressives Alliance (APGA), has stated that the ongoing crisis within the party will not affect the re-election of Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo.

Ezeokenwa made this assertion during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday. He pointed out that the party has faced similar crises in the past, including during the elections of previous governors Willie Obiano and Peter Obi, but it did not stop the party from emerging victorious.

"We had this crisis in 2009, it did not stop the re-election of Governor Peter Obi; we had this crisis in 2013, it did not stop the re-election of Gov Willie Obiano; we had this issue in 2017, it did not stop the re-election of Gov Willie Obiano, we had this issue in 2021, it didn’t stop the election of Professor Charles Soludo," Ezeokenwa stated.

He added that the party’s leadership tussle is a recurring phenomenon that occurs every four years, but the people of Anambra State understand and believe in APGA and what it has brought to the state.

Ezeokenwa was elected as chair APGA in May 2023 after an elective convention was held in Awka, Anambra state. However, in July 2024, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recognised Edozie Njoku as the national chair of APGA, citing a court order.

Njoku has since argued that a convention held in Owerri, Imo state capital, produced him as APGA’s national chair. Before Ezeokenwa was elected chair, there was a leadership tussle between Victor Oye, immediate-past chair of APGA, and Njoku.
