Tragedy Strikes Again: 35-Year-Old Man Dies by Suicide in Ogun State, Nigeria
A devastating incident has left the people of Ogun State, Nigeria, in shock as a 35-year-old man, Emmanuel Urhobocha, allegedly took his own life in his apartment on Alafia Street, Sango-Ota, on Friday.
According to the Ogun State Police Command, the incident occurred around 9:00 a.m. on Friday, just days after a 32-year-old man, Olúwaṣeun Shorinola, died by suicide in the Kémta area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on August 28, 2024.
The command’s spokesperson, Odutola Omolola, told PUNCH Online that Urhobocha’s roommate, Obabiyi David, had gone to the Sango-Ota Police Division to report that his flatmate was acting irrationally. David stated that Urhobocha was behaving oddly and had even attacked him with a knife at one point, sustaining injuries in the process.
A team of policemen from the Sango-Ota division was dispatched to question Urhobocha regarding the alleged attack, but upon arrival, they found the room securely locked from the inside. After several attempts to force the door open, the police finally gained entry and found the suspect lying lifeless, face down in the apartment.
Odutola said, "He was discovered dead in the apartment, with a container of insecticide found next to his body. He was promptly transported to a local hospital for medical attention, but the attending doctor confirmed him dead. His body has been placed in the morgue for an autopsy, and the incident remains under investigation."
This tragic incident serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and support. It is crucial that we come together as a community to provide a safe and compassionate environment for those struggling with their emotions.
The police investigation is ongoing, and the authorities are working to unravel the circumstances surrounding Urhobocha’s tragic death.
