APC Wins All Chairmanship Seats in Kebbi State Local Council Polls
The Kebbi State Independent Electoral Commission (KESIEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of Saturday’s local council polls in the state. According to KESIEC Chairman, Aliyu Muhammad-Mera, the APC won all 21 Chairmanship seats and 225 Ward Councillor positions.
A total of 17 political parties participated in the polls, including the APC, NNPP, LP, AAC, Boot party, AP, and SDP. Muhammad-Mera announced that the commission had ratified and adopted the chairmanship results for the Local Government Areas (LGs) as announced by the various councils’ Returning Officers and the Councillorship results as announced at the electoral wards.
The exercise was described as peaceful and hitch-free, with Muhammad-Mera commending the security agencies and all other stakeholders for their invaluable support. However, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had earlier boycotted the elections, alleging that the KESIEC Chairman and his Commissioners were card-carrying members of the APC.
The PDP had also insinuated that the commission’s leadership would not be fair to opposition parties. Despite these allegations, the APC emerged victorious in all the chairmanship and councillorship positions.
