Russia Unleashes Powerful Drone and Missile Attacks on Ukraine, Wreaking Havoc on Kiev, Sumy, and Kharkiv

In a devastating series of attacks, Russia has launched a powerful wave of drone and missile strikes on Ukraine, targeting the cities of Kiev, Sumy, and Kharkiv, according to officials.

On Monday morning, Ukrainian officials reported that two people were injured in the capital Kiev, with the attacks causing significant damage to several neighborhoods. Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that several fires broke out in western Kiev, damaging homes and vehicles, while windows at a metro station were shattered, although the metro remained operational.

The Russian army sent cruise missiles and drones to attack Kiev, firing the cruise missiles from Saratov in the Russian Volga region. Ukrainian air defense shot down around 10 cruise missiles and drones over Kiev, while the military estimated that nationwide, nine ballistic missiles, 13 cruise missiles, and 20 drones were shot down.

Sumy, located on the border with Russia, suffered the worst damage, with 18 people injured in Russian missile attacks, including six children. The attacks destroyed five tower blocks and an educational establishment, the police said.

Ukraine’s military administration has launched a counteroffensive in the region, where Ukrainian troops had advanced during the beginning of August. Meanwhile, Kharkiv, near the border, has also suffered further attacks.

In the early hours of the morning, the city’s industrial district came under fire, with a residential building and three other buildings in a garden area being burnt down, said Governor Oleh Synegubov.

The attack highlights the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, with tensions remaining high in the region.
