Seun Kuti Recalls Father Fela’s Preferential Treatment, Boasts About Never Doing Laundry

Seun Kuti, a renowned Afrobeat musician and son of the late Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has opened up about his childhood experiences in a recent podcast interview. Kuti, who was only 8 years old when his father passed away, revealed that he was his father’s favorite child, claiming he was pampered as a child and never had to do laundry.

In the Zero Conditions podcast, Kuti shared stories about his childhood, saying that he was his dad’s “favorite person in the world.” He acknowledged that his siblings might have a different opinion, stating that they might say their father was a “terrible dad.” However, Kuti emphasized that to him, his father was an amazing parent.

The singer boasts that his childhood experiences have had a lasting impact, stating that he has never done laundry in his life. “You don’t know how spoilt I was growing up. Till now, I have never done laundry in my life. I don’t know how to wash anything. I’m not bragging,” he said.

Kuti also revealed that he joined his late father’s band, Egypt 80, at the age of 8. After Fela’s death, Kuti’s family asked him to continue with the band and keep all the money he made.
