JAMB Refutes Claims of Involvement in HND Graduates’ NYSC Issues
In a recent statement, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has refuted claims made by some HND graduates that it is responsible for their inability to participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme. According to JAMB, it has no authority or control over HND admissions, which is outside its mandate.
JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, pointed to Section 5(2) of the board’s establishing law, which explicitly states that JAMB is not responsible for examinations or selection processes for postgraduate courses or other tertiary institution programs. Benjamin emphasized that JAMB’s mandate only covers undergraduate admissions and National Diploma courses.
The board clarified that some students were admitted to National Diploma programs without its knowledge, and it only condoned and endorsed those admissions. However, JAMB stressed that its relationship with these students is limited to the National Diploma program, and it is not responsible for their subsequent admission to Higher National Diploma (HND) programs.
Benjamin warned that some of these candidates have crossed the lines of criminality, and the board will soon address the matter appropriately. He urged that accusing JAMB of issues it has no mandate over is preposterous.
With this clarification, JAMB has refuted the claims made by HND graduates, and it is crucial for the graduates to understand the board’s role and limitations in the admissions process.
