Ebonyi State Board of Internal Revenue Services Works to Boost Revenue Generation and Clamp Down on Fake Taskforce Agents

The Ebonyi State Board of Internal Revenue Services (EBIRS) is committed to increasing its internally generated revenue to enable the state government to execute more projects that will positively impact the lives of its citizens. According to Chief Christopher Omo-Isu, the executive chairman of EBIRS, the board is working to boost revenue generation by a greater percentage to achieve this goal.

During a press briefing in Abakaliki, Omo-Isu condemned the activities of fake revenue taskforce agents who have been extorting petty traders in various markets across the state. He emphasized that the board is taking concrete steps to checkmate these agents and ensure that all revenue generated is collected directly from the government account.

To achieve this, the board has launched a tax digital automation system to block all revenue generation leakages in the state. According to Omo-Isu, this system ensures that taxpayers pay their taxes directly into the government account, eliminating the possibility of leakages.

The board has also set up a taskforce to visit markets and work with the police to apprehend fake revenue taskforce agents who have been extorting money from petty traders. Omo-Isu stressed that the board will not condone this illegal activity and will continue to work towards ensuring that all revenue generated is legitimate and transparent.

In a bid to simplify the tax payment process, the board has also implemented a new policy where only businesses that generate over N50,000 or N100,000 per year will be required to pay taxes. This policy is aimed at reducing the tax burden on small-scale businesses and traders.

The board’s efforts to boost revenue generation and clamp down on fake taskforce agents are expected to have a positive impact on the state’s economy and improve the living standards of its citizens.
