Nigerian President Not Taking Security Challenges Lightly, Vice President Shettima Reveals

In a move to tackle the nation’s security challenges, President Bola Tinubu is taking a proactive approach, according to Vice President Shettima. The statement was made on Monday at the Presidential Villa while Shettima received the leadership of the News Agency of Nigeria.

The Vice President emphasized that the President is deeply concerned about the security situation in the country and is working to address it. "The security situation in the nation is something that the President is very much interested in and is not taking it lightly," he said.

The international lecture organized by NAN, focused on the Sahel region, is also seen as a timely response to the growing insecurity concerns. Shettima commended the agency for its crucial role in Nigeria’s media landscape, stating, "Your organization plays a crucial role in Nigeria’s media landscape, helping to bridge the information gap and shape public discussion on national issues."

The conference, scheduled for September 25, 2024, will feature Mohamed Ibn Chambas, former Chairperson of the ECOWAS Commission, as the lead speaker. The event aims to bring together experts and stakeholders to discuss solutions to the security challenges faced by the Sahel region.

The Vice President also expressed optimism about the conference, stating, "I believe that with the caliber of people that will grace the lecture, you will come up with a lot of perspectives on how to address the insecurity in the Sahel in a holistic way."

In addition to the conference, NAN has outlined several initiatives to enhance its reach and effectiveness, including the introduction of vernacular broadcasting, reopening international offices, and intensifying coverage across Nigeria’s 109 senatorial districts.
