Nigeria’s Peoples Democratic Party Warns Minster Nyesom Wike Over Political Power Dispute

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), one of Nigeria’s two major political parties, has cautioned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, against what the party perceives as attempts to undermine its authority.

In a statement made at a press conference in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, Depo Ologunagba, PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, warned that no one is above the party and urged governors to work together to ensure stability in their respective states.

This cautionary message comes amidst a deepening crisis between Wike and the Rivers State government, led by Governor Sim Fubara, over control of the state’s political structure.

According to reports, Wike threatened to take drastic measures against governors who tried to interfere in the crisis in Rivers State, including an unspecified form of punishment aimed at putting "fire" in the state. Reacting to this threat, PDP’s Ologunagba emphasized the importance of respecting the party’s authority, saying: "What we have done is set up bodies and given them the mandate to do the job. We will wait for their report."

In an effort to quell tensions, Ologunagba urged the governors to focus on governing their states effectively, which he believed was the best way to achieve stability.

"If you compare PDP governors with governors from other parties, you will find that PDP governors are clearly oases of development," Ologunagba emphasized.

As tensions escalate, the situation promises to remain a major testing ground for the PDP, particularly as the Nigerian election cycle approaches. Stay tuned for further updates.
