Wike’s Threats to Northern Nigeria: A Clear Danger to National Security

Northern Group Writes to President Tinubu over Wike’s Threats

A Northern group, the Arewa Democratic Front (ADF), has written an open letter to President Bola Tinubu expressing concerns over the recent outburst by the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike. In the letter, the group describes Wike’s comments as a clear danger to national security.

According to reports, Wike made the threats during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) congress in Rivers State, where he warned governors of PDP-governed states that if they interfere in Rivers State’s political affairs, they will face consequences. The minister was quoted as saying, "Be prepared because I have the capacity to do the same in your state. Whether you’re from Bauchi or any other state, if you try to interfere in Rivers State, you will get burned and will not sleep peacefully in your state."

The ADF, led by Engr Mustapha Yusuf and Malam Muazu Haruna, described Wike’s remarks as reckless and destabilizing, stating that they pose a threat to national security. The group warned that Wike’s outburst, which targeted Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, is a form of political thuggery and a descent into partisan warfare.

The ADF urged President Tinubu to take immediate action to address the matter, citing Wike’s past actions against the people of Northern Nigeria, including former Vice President Alhaji Abubakar Atiku. The group reminded the President that Northern Nigeria has borne the brunt of violence and instability in recent years and cannot afford to allow a senior member of the administration to fan the flames of division and hatred.

The ADF called on the National Security Adviser and other relevant security agencies to investigate Wike’s threats and take necessary steps to prevent any escalation of tensions. The group urged the President to act decisively to address the issue, stating that the unity of the nation, the integrity of the administration, and the future of democracy are at stake.

As the situation unfolds, it is clear that the ADF will not tolerate any further acts of mischief or incitement from Wike or anyone else. The group has made it clear that they will resist any attempts to destabilize the region and protect their communities from political arson. With the stakes high, President Tinubu must take decisive action to address the situation and ensure the peace and security of Northern Nigeria.
