Mumbai, India – In a recent interview, Indian cricketers Mohammed Shami and Shreyas Iyer shared their experience of playing under Rohit Sharma’s leadership. The duo praised the skipper’s approach, which has led to the team’s consistent success in tournaments.
According to Shami, Rohit tends to keep his fiery responses in reserve, only expressing them when players fail to meet his expectations. “The best thing about Rohit Sharma is that he gives you freedom, but if you don’t live up to his expectations, then the reactions we see on the screen, the ones we understand without him saying anything, start to come out,” Shami said during the CEAT Cricket Award show.
Iyer concurred with his teammate, adding that Team India is now accustomed to Rohit’s communicating style. “He’s actually right. We fill in the blanks for us, visualising what will happen in that particular moment or what he’s talking about in another situation. But, we understand his feelings, having played with him for so many years. It’s not like he’s trying to beat around the bush; we know exactly what he feels,” Iyer said.
Rohit Sharma, who was awarded the Men’s International Cricketer of the Year at the CEAT Awards, responded to the praise by stating that he believes in being true to himself on the field. “I keep telling them to be themselves on the field, but for that, I have to be myself, and that’s how I am, and that’s how I want to be on the field as well,” he said during the CEAT Cricket Award show.
With Rohit set to lead Team India in the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, his leadership style is once again under the spotlight. The skipper’s approach has been credited with fostering a sense of freedom among his teammates, allowing them to express themselves on the field and achieve consistent success.
