Coalition Demands Sanctions Against PDP Minister over Anti-Party Activities

A Bauchi Youth Coalition, known as BAM-V, has urged the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to take immediate action against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, for his alleged anti-party activities.

Wike had threatened to "set on fire" states governed by PDP governors over the show of solidarity to Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara. The BAM-V Director-General, Mohammed Abubakar Jibo, in a statement, described Wike’s threat as reckless and indecorous, coming from someone who has benefited immensely from PDP but worked against its interests in the 2023 presidential election by supporting the incumbent President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the APC.

The group alleged that Wike’s anti-party activities contributed to the loss of Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate, in the 2023 election. They expressed support for Wike’s invitation to face the PDP Disciplinary Committee and demanded that he be sanctioned either by suspension or outright expulsion from the party before causing further harm ahead of the 2027 general election.

BAM-V cited the PDP Governors’ Forum resolution, which aimed to return the party’s structure to Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the rightful leader of the PDP in Rivers State, as a reason for Wike’s threat. The coalition said the sanctions are imperative given Wike’s numerous anti-party activities, including working against the PDP in the 2023 presidential election.

The group’s statement urged the PDP National Working Committee to take immediate action to protect the party from further damage. With the 2027 general election approaching, the BAM-V warned that Wike’s continued involvement in the party could cause harm to PDP’s prospects.

In a strong message, BAM-V stated that there is nothing more anti-party activity than a former party official working against the party’s interests and undermining its structures. They urged the PDP leadership to take concrete steps to address Wike’s behavior and restore confidence in the party.

As the party gears up for the 2027 election, BAM-V’s demand for sanctions against Wike serves as a warning to party leaders to take concrete action against anti-party activities and prioritize party unity.
