US School Shooting: 14-Year-Old Charged in Killing of 4, Father Faces Manslaughter

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with killing four people in a US high school shooting, while his father faces manslaughter charges, CNN reported on Thursday.

A shocking incident has unfolded in Georgia, USA, where a 14-year-old boy has been accused of killing four people, including two students and two teachers, at Apalachee High School. The shooting occurred on Wednesday, just weeks into the new academic year. The teenager, identified as Colt Gray, is facing four counts of felony murder, according to charging documents obtained by CNN.

Colt’s father, Colin Gray, 54, is also facing multiple charges, including four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children. The charges against Colin are based on allegations that he “knowingly allowed” his son to possess a weapon, according to GBI Director Chris Hosey.

The investigation revealed that Colin had purchased the AR-15-style rifle used in the shootings as a holiday gift for his son in December 2023. This raises questions about the father’s involvement and whether he should have taken steps to prevent the tragedy.

The shooting has left seven others injured, including six students and a teacher, while two additional students sustained non-gunshot-related injuries. Authorities have confirmed that all nine individuals injured in the incident are expected to make a full recovery.

This latest school shooting marks the 45th such incident in the US this year and the most devastating since the March 2023 shooting at The Covenant School in Nashville, where six people were killed. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing issue of gun violence in American schools and the need for stricter gun control measures.

As the investigation continues, the international community is left to mourn the loss of life and express concern for the well-being of those affected by this tragic event.
