Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki Reveals Dispute with Adams Oshiomhole Over State Burial for Tony Anenih
Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has revealed that one of the problems his administration has with Adams Oshiomhole was the latter’s criticism of the state burial he organized for the late Peoples Democratic Party leader, Chief Tony Anenih. Obaseki made this disclosure while presenting the party’s candidates, Asue Ighodalo, and his running mate, Osarodion Ogie, to the people of Esan North East Local Government area of Edo State.
At the time of the burial, Obaseki was still a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), although his relationship with Oshiomhole was strained due to disagreements over party and governance issues. Speaking to party supporters at Okpujie Demonstration Primary School, Uromi, Obaseki explained that Oshiomhole questioned the rationale behind his decision to give Anenih a state burial, saying that he was not an elected official. Obaseki, however, argued that Anenih had done more for the state and country than many governors, and therefore deserved the honor.
Obaseki also emphasized the importance of unity and inclusivity in Edo State, urging the people to support the party’s candidates and work towards achieving a better future for the state. He stated that every part of the state must produce a governor, and that it is now the turn of the Esan people to produce a governor.
The governor also criticized the APC, saying that the party does not love the Esan people and that the candidates they plan to field are not suitable for the position. He charged the people to embark on a massive campaign to mobilize and get more people and new voters in readiness for the September 21 governorship election.
Ighodalo, the party’s candidate, thanked the people of Uromi for their support and pledged to complete the projects started by Obaseki. He also criticized the APC, saying that their policies have caused suffering and hardship for the people of Edo State.
The party has also verified over 4,000 canvassers who will carry the party’s message of growth and prospects to the people. With the election just around the corner, the people of Edo State are eager to see which party will emerge victorious.
