Miss Universe Nigeria Responds to Criticism: “I Worked Hard to Earn My Title”
Chidimma Adetshina, the newly-crowned Miss Universe Nigeria, has addressed the criticism she received after winning the title. In an interview on Arise News, she emphasized that her victory was not a result of a “pity win” and that she had worked tirelessly to emerge as the winner.
Adetshina’s journey to the Miss Universe Nigeria title was not without its challenges. She was previously forced to withdraw from the South Africa version of the pageant in August 2024 after allegations of fraud and identity theft involving her mother surfaced. Following xenophobic backlash and rejection over her nationality, she accepted an invitation to join the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant and eventually won the title.
“I don’t think it was a pity win,” Adetshina said in the interview. “I feel like I really worked so hard, coming from the South Africa journey. We spent like 10 weeks, camp, going through the whole journey. It might have been a slight difference compared to everybody else, but if you have to look at the journey that we have all been through, I feel like I really had the same experience with other contestants.”
Adetshina’s determination and perseverance have earned her admiration from many, and her response to criticism has silenced doubters. Her victory serves as a testament to the importance of hard work and dedication, and her message of empowerment will surely inspire many young women around the world.
