PDP Faction in Kano Rejects Ward Congresses Over Transparency and Fairness Concerns
A faction of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State has expressed deep disappointment and concern over the ward congresses conducted in the state on Saturday. The Sadiq Aminu Wali faction, led by Muhaminnah Lamido, has distanced itself from the results of the ward congresses, citing a lack of transparency, inclusiveness, and fairness.
According to the faction, the process was marred by the deliberate exclusion of key stakeholders and legitimate party members in the build-up to the congresses. Additionally, several irregularities were observed during the exercise, which has led to a flawed outcome. Sadiq Aminu Wali, the faction’s leader, has expressed dismay over the procedural failings and violations of the party’s guidelines.
The faction’s statement read, "We urge the PDP’s national leadership to swiftly intervene and take necessary steps to address the anomalies witnessed today. This will be crucial in safeguarding the unity and integrity of the party, especially as we approach critical elections in Kano State."
Despite repeated efforts to engage with the relevant party organs to resolve outstanding issues before the congresses, the faction’s concerns were disregarded, leading to today’s flawed exercise. The faction remains committed to upholding the principles of democracy, rule of law, and justice, and calls on its supporters to remain calm as they seek redress through appropriate party channels.
The Sadiq Aminu Wali faction reaffirms its loyalty to the PDP and its ideals, and will continue to work towards building a stronger, more unified party in Kano State. The move is seen as a major setback for the party in the state, particularly as it approaches critical elections in the coming months.
