Venice Film Festival Wraps Up with Award Ceremony
The 81st edition of the Venice Film Festival has come to a close, with a star-studded award ceremony held on Saturday. A jury chaired by French actor Isabelle Huppert selected the winners from a pool of 21 films in competition. The Golden Lion for Best Film was awarded to Pedro Almodovar’s “The Room Next Door,” while Maura Delpero’s “Vermiglio” received the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize for its unique blend of Italian, French, and Belgian filmmaking styles.
British director Brady Corbet won the Silver Lion award for best director for his gritty drama “The Brutalist.” The Volpi Cup award for best actress went to Nicole Kidman for her powerful performance in Halina Reijn’s “Babygirl.” Vincent Lindon took home the Volpi Cup for best actor for his outstanding portrayal of a father trying to cope with his child’s severe burns in “Jouer Avec Le Feu,” directed by Delphine Coulin and Muriel Coulin.
The award for best screenplay was given to Murilo Hauser and Heitor Lorega for their gripping story “I’m Still Here,” directed by Walter Salles. Dea Kulumbegashvili’s “April” was awarded the Special Jury Prize for its powerful portrayal of a woman struggling to escape her abusive relationship.
Lastly, the Marcello Mastroianni Award for best young actor or actress was given to Paul Kircher for his heartwarming performance in “Leurs Enfants Apres Eux,” directed by Ludovic Boukherma and Zoran Boukherma. The Venice Film Festival continues to be a platform for talented filmmakers from around the world to showcase their work and compete for some of the most prestigious awards in the industry.
