Dangote Refinery Sued for Transparency on Fuel Refining Costs

Dangote Refinery Under Fire for Refusal to Disclose Fuel Production Costs

Arewa Youth Assembly, a prominent youth organization in Nigeria, has called on Dangote Refinery to be transparent about the cost of refining a liter of fuel. The assembly made this demand in response to a recent statement by Muslims Right Concern (MURIC), which blamed the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for the rising price of petrol.

MURIC claimed that the recent changes to the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) will prevent Dangote Refinery from offering lower prices, and that NNPCL has become the sole offtaker of all products from the refinery. However, the Arewa Youth Assembly has disputed these claims, stating that MURIC is spreading false and unverified information.

According to the assembly, the cost of refining a liter of petroleum exceeds N800, and the landing cost is around N1,117. The assembly has urged Dangote Refinery to reveal its production costs rather than shifting blame to NNPCL through organizations like MURIC.

"We challenge the Dangote refinery to transparently disclose the cost of refining a liter of fuel. This transparency will enable Nigerians to hold the right parties accountable," said Mohammed Salihu Danlami, Speaker of the Arewa Youth Assembly.

The assembly also criticized MURIC for using religion as a tool to serve its selfish desires, and for spreading misinformation. "MURIC blaming NNPCL for the hike in PMS price is laughable. It does not require rocket science to know that petroleum product prices, including those from the Dangote refinery, are mainly determined by global market forces and other parameters," said Danlami.

The Arewa Youth Assembly has called on Dangote Refinery to take responsibility for its actions and to sell its products at a lower price, as it is free to do so in a free market environment. The assembly has also urged MURIC to verify its information and back it with categorical facts before disseminating it to the public.

As a religious organization, MURIC should remember the Hadith of the Holy Prophet, which states, "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should speak good or remain silent."
