Delta State Deputy Governor Urges PDP to Work Hard for 2027 Victory Amid Fuel Price Hikes

The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Mr. Monday Onyeme, has called on members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to work hard to return the party to power in 2027. Onyeme made the plea during a courtesy visit by non-working party members of the State Executive Committee in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

The deputy governor’s comments come amidst the ongoing fuel price hike crisis in Nigeria, which has significantly impacted the standard of living of Nigerians. He attributed the crisis to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and urged PDP members to remain loyal and work towards regaining power.

“We have learned lessons the hard way by voting for the APC. When the PDP was leading the nation on a progressive trend with the fuel pump price at N87 per litre and Nigerians were enjoying democratic freedom, they fell prey to the razzmatazz of APC’s ‘Change’ mantra,” Onyeme said.

The deputy governor also highlighted the difference between the PDP’s era and the current APC regime, emphasizing that Nigerians enjoyed greater freedom to protest and express themselves during the PDP’s time in power.

“The freedom to protest is no longer there. When we were in charge of the affairs of this country, Nigerians enjoyed democratic freedom, people were free to complain and protest, and the government gave them listening ears,” Onyeme noted.

The deputy governor’s call to action comes as the APC government faces mounting criticism over its handling of the fuel price hike crisis. The party’s leadership has been accused of being out of touch with the plight of ordinary Nigerians, who are struggling to make ends meet due to the increasing cost of living.

Onyeme’s remarks have been seen as a rallying cry for PDP members to come together and work towards regaining power in 2027. The party has been working to rebuild its image and appeal to Nigerians following its defeat in the 2015 general elections.

The deputy governor’s visit was attended by the party’s executives, who reiterated their commitment to serving the party and the people of Delta State. The party’s chairman, Mr. Morgan Ogapha, spoke through the party’s assistant legal adviser, Hessington Okolo, stressing the group’s dedication to serving the party and the people of Delta State.

As Nigerians continue to grapple with the effects of the fuel price hike crisis, Onyeme’s call to action serves as a reminder of the importance of political unity and collective action in addressing the country’s challenges.
