U.S. Envoy to Visit Middle East and Africa to End Sudan War and Famine

U.S. Special Envoy for Sudan Tom Perriello is set to embark on a crucial diplomatic mission to Riyadh, Cairo, and Ankara, starting September 8, to bring an end to the devastating war and famine in Sudan. This urgent effort builds on the success of the Aligned for Advancing Lifesaving and Peace in Sudan (ALPS) initiative, which has made significant progress in recent weeks.

Perriello’s trip aims to coordinate efforts with key stakeholders to expand humanitarian access in Sudan, ensure the protection of civilians, and seek a cessation of hostilities. He will meet with Sudanese refugees, civilian leaders, government officials, and multi-lateral partners from the Arab League and IGAD to discuss the crisis and potential solutions.

The United States remains committed to working with international partners to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people and achieve a lasting peace. The country’s diplomatic efforts are focused on supporting the Sudanese people and promoting a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

Perriello’s visit comes at a critical time, as the war in Sudan has resulted in widespread famine and displacement. The international community is urging all parties involved to work towards a peaceful resolution and ensure the protection of civilians.

The U.S. Envoy’s trip is a significant step towards ending the conflict and bringing relief to the people of Sudan. As the international community continues to work together to address this crisis, it is essential that all parties prioritize the well-being and safety of the Sudanese people.
