Kwara State Commissioner of Police Meets with Transport Unions to Address Fuel Price Disruptions

The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, has taken steps to address recent disruptions in transport services in Ilorin following the increase in fuel pump price by the federal authorities. On Friday, September 6, 2024, Olaiya met with representatives of several transport unions, including the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria, and Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria, at the command headquarters.

During the meeting, Olaiya emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and harmony, highlighting Kwara State’s reputation for being a peaceful and harmonious region. He reassured the transport unions that the federal government is actively working to improve the economic situation and ensure the well-being of all Nigerians. Olaiya also encouraged the unions to channel any concerns, particularly regarding security, through their chairmen and emphasized the importance of dialogue and cooperation.

Governor AbdulRaham AbdulRazaq was also mentioned as being fully supportive of the transport unions and willing to assist them in all matters. The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring the continued safety and prosperity of all residents in Kwara State, according to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Ejire Adeyemi Toun.

The meeting demonstrates the Kwara State Commissioner of Police’s efforts to address the concerns of the transport unions and maintain peace in the region. It also showcases the commitment of the state government to the well-being of its residents and its willingness to work with key stakeholders to address pressing issues.
