Bauchi State Governor Sacks Commissioner for Health Amidst Administrative Shake-Up
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has relieved Dr. Adamu Sambo of his duties as Commissioner for Health, just days after a swearing-in ceremony for three new commissioners and the Chief Security Adviser. The move was part of a broader administration reshuffle aimed at "repositioning" the government and reducing costs.
During the ceremony, the Governor explained that the removal of Dr. Sambo was not a reflection of his performance, but a leadership decision to align the administration with the Supreme Court’s judgment on local government and to ensure parity and representation in the cabinet. This comes after the death of the former Commissioner for Local Government, Ahmed Jalam, in a car accident earlier this year.
Notably, the Governor revealed that his administration will no longer assign a commissioner to the Ministry of Local Government, citing the implementation of new local government legislation as the reason. Two other commissioners had resigned to pursue local government chairmanship positions, and the Chief Security Adviser was also dismissed.
Dr. Sani Dambam has taken over as the new Commissioner for Health, replacing Dr. Sambo. According to the Governor, he wishes Dr. Sambo the best and will find a place for him within the government.
The appointments of Mrs. Zainab Babbatanka as Commissioner for Women Affairs, Engineer Mohammed Abdulkadir as Commissioner for Commerce, and Dr. Ahmed Abdurrahman as Chief Security Adviser concluded the administrative shake-up.
