Kano State APC Rejects NNPP Leader’s Criticism of Palliative Distribution
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has rebuked Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, the national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), for criticizing the method adopted by the federal government in the distribution of palliatives.
According to the State Chairman of the APC in Kano, Abdullahi Abbas, the decision to rebuke Kwankwaso was informed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s dissatisfaction with the previous exercise in the state towards easing hardship. Abbas claimed that the federal government was committed to reducing hunger in the country, but the NNPP was frustrating the efforts.
The APC chairman stated that President Tinubu has approved several palliative measures for poor households and vulnerable groups, but the people assigned for the distribution were diverting them. He noted that the scandalous escapades that enmeshed senior officials of the NNPP government brought to light how the palliatives could not reach the targeted poor and vulnerable.
Abbas called on Kwankwaso to tell his anointed governor to launch an investigation into these acts of irresponsibility, ensuring that perpetrators account for all the missing palliatives and are prosecuted. He also faulted Kwankwaso for saying that the distribution exercise was solely left for the APC.
The chairman highlighted the establishment of a reconstituted committee by the federal government to oversee the distribution of palliatives. The committee, led by Deputy Senate President Senator Barque Jibrin, has members from the APC, NNPP, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), and others.
Abbas emphasized that the committee worked out detailed modalities for the distribution of palliatives to prevent incidents of diversion and ensure that beneficiaries are truly the most needy members of the public. He noted that the bipartisan committee has a membership of diverse backgrounds, including Senators, House of Representatives members, traditional and religious leaders, among others.
Regarding the issue of posting and reposting of directors of the Department of State Services, the chairman stated that the decision was in President Tinubu’s special consideration for Kano and commitment to ensuring that only diligent heads of security agencies are posted to the state. He noted that Kano remained relatively peaceful during the two-term administration of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, with no incidents of violence.
However, Abbas claimed that the prevailing insecurity in the state is the handiwork of the NNPP government, which he said encouraged and supported the violent youth in the state.
