Keane Warns Grealish: Lacking Playing Time Could Affect Sharpness

Manchester United Legend Warns Jack Grealish of Losing Sharpness Without Regular Playing Time

Roy Keane, a Manchester United legend, has cautioned Manchester City star Jack Grealish that he may lose his sharpness if he fails to secure a regular playing time under manager Pep Guardiola. Keane’s warning comes as Grealish has been recalled by England’s interim manager Lee Carsley for the Three Lions’ Nations League wins over the Republic of Ireland and Finland.

Grealish, who failed to make England’s Euro 2024 squad under former manager Gareth Southgate, has produced two impressive displays for England against Ireland and Finland. However, Keane believes that the 29-year-old could struggle to make the next England squad if he is lacking playing time at Manchester City.

In an interview with ITV, Keane emphasized the importance of regular playing time for Grealish. “The biggest thing for Jack is, I definitely think he needs to play regularly at Man City and that is obviously difficult, the challenges there,” Keane said. “I think he needs to be sharp. When he’s not playing regularly he does lose that sharpness very quickly. So it’s key he gets games at City.”

Keane’s words of caution are rooted in his own experience as a professional footballer. He understands the importance of consistent playing time in maintaining a player’s sharpness and performance level. “Usually when you are doing well at club level, you are selected for your international team. So your bread and butter is what you do week-in, week-out at club level, particularly for players like Jack,” Keane added.

As Grealish looks to secure a regular spot in Manchester City’s starting lineup, Keane’s warning serves as a reminder of the importance of consistent playing time in maintaining a player’s sharpness and performance level. With the next England squad selection looming, Grealish will need to work hard to prove himself and secure a spot in the team.
