Global Music Icon Frankie Beverly’s Legacy Lives On as Tributes Pour in

The music world is still reeling from the sudden passing of Frankie Beverly, the soulful singer-songwriter who brought joy and inspiration to generations of music lovers. Tributes have been flooding in from fans and fellow artists alike, paying homage to the 77-year-old legend’s remarkable life and career.

Beyoncé was among the many who reacted to Beverly’s passing, issuing a heartfelt statement through her company Parkwood Entertainment. “Thank you Frankie Beverly for bringing us all together with your music,” she wrote. “You’ve written some of the most inspiring and uplifting songs for the world to enjoy. With your lyrics, you have humanized our experiences, through joy and pain. Thank you for teaching us about the importance of community, family, and togetherness. We will never forget you. May you rest in power.”

Beyoncé’s own tribute to Beverly came in the form of a 2019 reimagining of his classic hit “Before I Let Go,” which peaked at No. 65 on the Billboard Hot 100 after featuring in her music film, HOMECOMING. The original record, written and produced by Beverly, debuted in 1981 and reached No. 13 on the Billboard R&B chart.

Prior to his death, Beverly had retired from music, but not before receiving his well-deserved flowers on his farewell tour. He was also honored with a special tribute at this year’s ESSENCE Fest, where artists such as Doug E. Fresh, Bilal, Anthony Hamilton, Luke James, Jagged Edge, and more paid homage to the crooner as he took his final bow.

The Beverly family confirmed his death on Wednesday, September 11, asking for privacy as they grieve. In a statement, they remembered their loved one as “a man who lived his life with pure soul… and for us, no one did it better. He lived for his music, family, and friends” and urged fans to “love one another as he would want that for us all.”

As the music world mourns the loss of this beloved legend, his legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire and uplift generations to come.
