Nigerian Air Force Eliminates 28 Terrorists in Strikes Against Boko Haram
In a significant blow to terrorist groups, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has eliminated at least 28 terrorists in strikes against Boko Haram in the Bassa area of Niger State. The operation, conducted on September 11, was in response to a request for air support from friendly forces in the area.
According to a statement by the NAF, the air interdiction mission was successful, with NAF air assets observing over 100 terrorists engaging friendly forces in a fierce firefight. The NAF then conducted precision airstrikes on the terrorists’ positions, neutralizing dozens of terrorists in successive passes. As of the time of reporting, 28 bodies had been recovered from the target area, with several more terrorists, weapons, and burnt motorcycles still being cleared.
The successful operation underscores the NAF’s commitment to protecting the nation and supporting sister services and other security agencies in combating banditry, terrorism, insurgency, and all other forms of criminality. The attack on Bassa was part of a series of intense attacks by Boko Haram terrorists, who have been camping in the nearby Allawa forest reserve. The terrorists have been responsible for numerous attacks on the town, including the killing of soldiers and the withdrawal of troops from the area.
Local sources reported hearing sporadic gunshots from the axis since 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, and residents were told to stay indoors while security operatives exchanged fire with the assailants. The terrorists were eventually repelled by joint operatives, including local vigilantes and hunters, who killed 21 terrorists during the first phase of the attack.
Yusuf Dangana, a youth leader from Bassa, confirmed the details of the attack, stating that the security operatives did not suffer any casualties, but two people from the community were killed. Four terrorists were also captured during the operation.
The defeat of the terrorists is a significant victory for the Nigerian military and a testament to their determination to protect the nation from the scourge of terrorism.
