Pope Warns of AI’s Dark Side: Dangers of Isolation and False Reality

Pope Francis Warns of AI’s Negative Impact on Society

Pope Francis has sounded the alarm on the potential dangers of artificial intelligence (AI) during a visit to Singapore. The head of the Catholic Church cautioned that AI could isolate individuals and lead them to believe in a false reality if not used responsibly.

The Pope made his comments during a reception in Singapore, a city-state known for its advanced technology. He emphasized that AI should not be used to make people forget about what is truly important – human relationships. According to the Pope, technology developments risk putting people in a false reality, which could have devastating consequences for society.

Instead, the Pope called for AI to be used to bring people closer together and promote understanding and solidarity within society. This is not the first time the Pope has spoken out on the issue of AI. He also urged the Group of Seven (G7) leading industrial democracies to ensure that AI is not left unchecked during this year’s G7 summit in Italy.

Pope Francis’s visit to Singapore marks the final stop of his longest foreign trip to date, which has taken him to Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and East Timor over the past 12 days. On Friday, he will return to Rome. The visit is expected to attract a large crowd, with a mass planned in a sports stadium that is expected to draw around 50,000 people.

Interestingly, only about 176,000 out of Singapore’s nearly six million residents are Catholic, with the majority of the population having Chinese roots. Despite this, the Pope’s message is likely to resonate with people of all faiths and backgrounds.
