MTV VMAs: South African Afrobeats Star Tyla Wins Best Afrobeats Singer

What a sensational night it was for music lovers! The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) held at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, witnessed several wins for diverse talents in the music industry.

South African afrobeats singer Tyla dominated the night, taking home the award for Best Afrobeats for her chart-topping hit “Water”. In her acceptance speech, Tyla emphasized that “African music can be pop music too, it’s not just traditional afrobeats”.

But that was not all for Tyla, her energetic performance during the night made her a fan favorite!

The other big winner of the night was American pop sensation Taylor Swift who clinched four awards. Two of her wins, Video of the Year for “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone and Best New Artist for Chappell Roan, solidified her reputation as a force to be reckoned with.
