Developing Ogbomoso: A 25-Year Vision Takes Shape
In a bid to transform Ogbomoso into a model town, the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Ghandi Olaoye, has outlined a 25-year vision focused on growth and development. The initiative, which includes the upcoming Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival, aims to showcase the town’s rich cultural heritage and attract tourists from across Nigeria.
Olaoye, who spoke during a dinner in Abuja on Thursday night, emphasized the importance of community involvement in achieving the town’s growth goals. "We cannot solely rely on the government," he said. "While the government will contribute significantly, much of the effort will come from us. It is time for us to unite, roll up our sleeves, and work together to develop our town."
The carnival, scheduled for December 19 to 24, is one of the key initiatives aimed at promoting Ogbomoso’s cultural heritage and attracting tourists. Williams Adeleye, a former Special Assistant to the immediate past president and Chairman of the Carnival Committee, believes that the event will help put Ogbomoso on the map as a tourist destination. "We will showcase the rich cultural heritage of Ogbomoso land, and I encourage those interested in investing in agro-business or the hospitality sector to act swiftly, as there is already a high demand for land," he said.
Olaoye’s 25-year vision is built on the foundation of community love and pride. "To achieve this, it’s crucial that the indigenous people embrace their town with love and pride," he said. "Just as people love their churches and communities, we must foster the same love for our town and its leadership."
The Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival is expected to be a major step towards realizing Olaoye’s vision. With its rich cultural heritage and stunning natural beauty, Ogbomoso is poised to become a prime tourist destination in Nigeria.
