Zamfara State Government Hands Over Patrol Vehicles to Police to Enhance Security
In a bid to boost security in Zamfara State, the government has handed over operational patrol vehicles to the police. The move is aimed at enhancing the police’s response to distressed calls and patrols across the state, ensuring a secure environment for residents.
Governor Dauda Lawal, while handing over the vehicles to the 16 police divisions, two mobile police force units, and the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), emphasized the importance of security in his administration’s rescuing mission agenda. "The security of lives and property is topmost in my agenda," he said.
The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Captain Bala Mairiga (retired), explained that the donation of operational patrol vehicles is to empower the police and enhance their quick response to emergency security threats in the state. "In an effort to solve this insecurity problem, there is a need to empower our security agencies, especially the police," he said.
The governor also took time to commiserate with the police and the Nigerian Army, whose seven personnel were killed in an ambush by suspected terrorists on Thursday morning. He assured them of bringing about reforms to improve the police and other security agencies’ efficiency and effectiveness in carrying out their constitutional duties.
Governor Lawal also emphasized the need to fight corruption, stating that governments at all levels should start by improving the welfare of judicial officers, training, and other motivations for them. "If governments want to fight corruption, the first port of call is the judiciary," he said.
The Commissioner of Police in Zamfara State, CP Mohammed Dalijan, expressed the readiness of the Nigerian Police to defend and protect residents of the state against the activities of violent armed bandits who are unleashing terror on innocent citizens.
Despite the financial constraints the state is facing, Governor Lawal assured that his administration will do its best to address the needs of security agents. "We will look at all the offices of our DPOs, all the police stations, and we are going to put in the part of our budget to make sure we give you befitting offices, not just offices but other equipment that will make you function effectively," he said.
The handover of patrol vehicles is a significant step towards enhancing security in Zamfara State, and it is hoped that it will lead to a reduction in the activities of armed bandits and a safer environment for residents.
