Gombe State Government Shows Solidarity with Borno State in Wake of Devastating Flood
In a gesture of unity and support, the Gombe State Government has expressed solidarity with the government and people of Borno State following a recent flood disaster that ravaged the state capital and surrounding areas. A high-powered delegation led by the Deputy Governor, Manassah Jatau, was sent to Borno State to offer condolences and assistance to the flood victims.
According to a press statement signed by the Director-General of Press Affairs, Gombe Government House, Ismaila Misilli, on Friday, the delegation presented a donation of N100 million to support the relief efforts. The Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Yahaya, conveyed the heartfelt sympathy of the people of Gombe State at the Government House and the Shehu of Borno’s palace in Maiduguri, emphasizing the strong bond between the two states.
The Secretary to the Government of Gombe State, Professor Ibrahim Njodi, explained that the governor was immediately informed of the devastating flood, which occurred while he was abroad on an official engagement. He directed the visit, citing the close relationship between the two neighboring states.
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, expressed gratitude for the concern and support shown by the Gombe State Government, pledging to use the donation judiciously to mitigate the effects of the flood. The Gombe delegation also visited the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Garbai Al’amin Elkanami, to offer condolences to the people for the loss of lives and property. They prayed for the souls of the deceased and expressed hope that such disasters would not recur.
The Shehu of Borno appreciated the delegation sent by the governor, describing the disaster as more severe than the one that occurred 30 years ago. The Gombe delegation later visited the areas affected by the flooding in Maiduguri, demonstrating their commitment to supporting the people of Borno State in their time of need.
