Imo State APC Leadership Denies Crisis Rocking Party

The Imo State chapter of Nigeria’s ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC), has dismissed as false a social media post claiming that the party is embroiled in crisis over the outcome of recent primaries. The alleged disturbance was said to be generated by demands for refund of money by some aspirants within 48 hours, according to the post signed by one Ekeh Chiemena.

However, in a press release signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Cajetan Duke, the Imo State APC leadership stated that the publication is inaccurate and designed to create chaos within the party. Mr. Duke described the purported article as a "classical example of lazy journalism" that relies on unspecified sources and unsubstantiated claims to spread falsehood.

According to the release, the APC in Imo State conducted its primaries peacefully, fairly, and creditably through a consensus process in line with the party’s constitution and adopted by party stakeholders. The winners, it added, have been declared and are bonafide members of the party who subscribed to the required forms.

The party secretariat also clarified that suggestions made by Governor Hope Uzodinma regarding possible refunds to aspirants as a gesture of goodwill to those who respected the party’s consensus arrangement are misunderstood. The party emphasized that this is not a new convention in Nigerian party politics and is subject to approval by the State Executive Committee.

The APC leadership cautioned the public to disregard the article and its contents as they are mere fabrications of the author’s imagination. The party remains unified and focused on delivering effective governance to the people of Imo State, reaffirming its commitment to the September 21 general election.
