Inyang Ekpenyong, the epidemiologist for Cross River State, has confirmed two cases of M-Pox in the Calabar Municipality area of the state. According to the official, the Case Management Team has immediately evacuated the patients to an isolation center to prevent further transmission.
In a statement, the epidemiologist revealed that the State and Local Government Response Teams (RRT) have begun conducting contact tracing, listing, and monitoring to contain the outbreak. Ekpenyong also emphasized the urgent need for financial resources to support response activities.
The confirmation of these two cases brings the total number of M-Pox cases in Nigeria to 56, with Cross River State having five reported cases. Just four days ago, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced the national total.
