Anambra State Government Clarifies Property Status in Enugu
The Anambra State Government has issued a statement through its Ministry of Information, declaring that properties domiciled in Enugu State are not for sale. The statement, released on Saturday, was made by the Managing Director of Anambra State Housing Development Corporation, Chike Anyaonu.
According to the statement, the properties in question were inherited by Anambra State after the creation of states in August 1991. The Federal Government subsequently undertook the sharing of assets between the newly created states, including Anambra and Enugu. The properties inherited by Anambra State in Abuja and Lagos have not faced any issues, but those in Enugu have been surreptitiously sold by some individuals described as “unscrupulous scavengers and grabbers.”
The properties in question are five in number, located at 30/32 Abakaliki Road, GRA, Enugu, Plot 6 Ogbolu Crescent, GRA, Enugu, Plot 14, Charles Street, GRA, Enugu, Plot 3, Independence Layout, Enugu, and Plot 650, Independence Layout, Enugu. Anyaonu emphasized that the Anambra State Government, led by Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has not directed anyone to act as agents to sell these properties.
To prevent any further unauthorized sales, officers of the Anambra State Housing Development Corporation have physically posted Caveat Emptor posters on the five properties and formally written to the Lands Registry in Enugu and the Enugu and Anambra states Police commands. Any individual attempting to buy one of these properties from impostors is warned that they are doing grave damage to themselves.
The Anambra State Government is taking this step to protect its assets and prevent any potential losses. The public is advised to be cautious when dealing with property transactions in Enugu and to verify the authenticity of any offers before making a purchase.
