Edo State Governorship Election: APC Candidate Pledged to Take State to the Next Level
Vice President Kashim Shettima has thrown his weight behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, in the upcoming Edo State election. The Vice President made the endorsement during a grand finale campaign rally in Benin City, where he assured the people of the state that the Federal Government would support the incoming government’s efforts to develop the state.
The Vice President praised Senator Okpebholo, describing him as a seasoned leader with a proven track record of excellence. He assured that the Federal Government would work tirelessly to ensure that Edo State receives the support it deserves, with the incoming government having the resources to bankroll developmental projects in the state.
Senator Okpebholo, who received the party’s flag during the rally, promised to revive the economy of the state, describing the eight years of Governor Godwin Obaseki’s government as a failure. He pledged to employ 10,000 teachers, with half of them being employed within the first 100 days in office. The APC candidate also promised to provide loans for farmers and soft loans for market women under his agricultural initiatives.
In his address, Senator Okpebholo emphasized the need for unity and peace in achieving progress, saying that voting for the APC would bring education, security, social infrastructure, good healthcare services, and agriculture to the state. He described the state of basic education in the state as dire, with no teachers in basic schools, and vowed to declare a state of emergency on infrastructure, citing the deplorable state of roads in the state.
The rally was attended by a massive crowd of APC supporters, including state governors from across the six geopolitical zones of the country. Other APC stalwarts who canvassed votes for the party’s candidate at the rally included the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, and Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River, who is the chairman of the national governorship campaign council for the state election.
With the election just around the corner, the APC is optimistic about its chances, citing the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting the incoming government and the party’s dedication to putting the interests of Edo State above all else. The party is urging the electorate to vote en masse for Senator Okpebholo on September 21.
