Fatal Road Accident in Oyo State: Five Killed, Three Injured in Head-On Collision
A devastating road accident occurred on the old Oyo/Ogbomoso road on Friday night, resulting in the loss of five lives and injuring three others. According to Mary Alo, the Oyo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, the accident involved two vehicles carrying a total of 11 passengers.
The collision, which occurred approximately three kilometres from Ile-Abu in Ogbomoso, was attributed to speeding. Alo revealed that the crash happened between a white commercial truck without company details or registration number and a commercial ash-coloured space bus with registration number LRN 185 YR.
The head-on collision on a single carriageway resulted in the deaths of five people, including three men and two women. The injured parties comprise two men and one woman. Notably, three men were not injured in the accident.
Alo emphasized the importance of avoiding wrongful overtaking and speeding, urging drivers to exercise caution on the roads. Items recovered from the scene included a travel box, three school bags, two small travel bags, a crossbody bag, a sack bag, a first aid box, two plastic bags, eight smartphones, and four purses containing a total of N20,350.
The two vehicles involved in the accident have been towed by the police, and the injured are currently receiving treatment at Ladoke Akintola Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso. The bodies of the deceased have been deposited in the hospital’s mortuary.
