Nigeria’s Vice President Urges Edo State to Vote for Governing Party in Upcoming Election
Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima,has called on the people of Edo State to come out and vote for the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the upcoming governorship election. The election takes place on September 21.
Speaking at the sports complex of the University of Benin on Saturday at the grand finale of APC’s gubernatorial campaign for the state, Shettima emphasized the need for a functional state that benefits all citizens, regardless of their background, occupation or religion.
"Edo State needs a strategic thinker, a builder, a man of the people and a man who can listen to the people’s fears and lead with the power of God," Shettima said, urging electiongoers to vote forthe APC candidate, Senator Okpebholo
The Vice President also talked about the economic reforms past year, saying that states have received increased allocations thanks to the government’s interventions. He assured that government is working around theclock to bring relief to communitiesthathavye been affected by catastrophic floods.
Senator Shettima also called onpeople to vote for the political party at the center holding power, the APC, pointing out that doing so woould enable Edo receive more dividends of democracy under the current administration.
Senators Godswill Akaabio, an opposition leader, also showed his support for the state, stating that voting for parties that hold power at the center tends to benefit states more developmental wise.
Senator Monday’s APC candidate promised that her government would improve the employment opportunities, give soft assistance to farmers and market owners, and enhance thestate’s education infrastructure.
To achieve this, Senator Kpebholo aimed to employ over 2,000 teachers, construction of health centers, improve infrastructure, and address Education crisis.
Edo government candidates from various statesand National Assembly members, too, were part of and party stalwarts. Several former Senators and Governor who also spoke to the current Governor of the state Edo, lamented bad performance and encouraged voters chose a better alternative.
