Zamfara State Governor Assures Nigerian Army of Full Cooperation in Fight Against Banditry

In a crucial move to bolster efforts to combat banditry, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to support the Nigerian Army’s ongoing operations in the state. This pledge was made during a meeting between the governor and Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, who was in the state to inform the governor on the launch of the new military operation, "Operation Fansan Yamma".

Under this operation, all existing military operations in the Northwest region have been merged into a single effort, "Operation Fansan Yamma", which carries a message of hope, emphasizing that the troops are committed to crushing banditry in the region. Governor Lawal expressed his appreciation for the Chief of Defence Staff’s visit, describing it as a morale booster to the people of Zamfara State.

"I appreciate your willingness to work with the state’s Community Protection Guards (CPG)," Governor Lawal said, noting that all CPG guards were carefully selected and underwent rigorous profiling by relevant agencies. He expressed full support for the army’s efforts in the fight against banditry and highlighted the state’s Community Protection Guards’ familiarity with their local areas, stating, "We have complete confidence in the army’s dedication and believe they will continue to intensify their efforts."

The governor also conveyed his condolences for the loss of brave officers who died in a tragic accident on the Gusau-Funtua road. He emphasized his government’s commitment to working closely with the army and other security agencies to put an end to banditry.

Meanwhile, Chief of Defence Staff Musa commended Governor Lawal for his administration’s support of the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies in the state. Musa praised the significant developments and ongoing constructions that have taken place in Zamfara State under Governor Lawal’s leadership, remarking, "This is the benefit of democracy… We have witnessed a lot of developments and ongoing constructions in the state since you took over."

This timely assurance from the governor serves as a vital step forward in the fight against banditry, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between state authorities and the Nigerian military in ensuring peace and security in Zamfara State.
