The New Nigeria People’s Party Vows to Take Legal Action Against Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Ogun State has issued a stern warning to the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) regarding the upcoming local government election on November 16. According to party chairman Olufemi Aina, NNPP will not hesitate to take legal action if it suspects any foul play in the electoral process.

Aina made this statement during the party’s primary elections for councillorship and chairmanship aspirants held at the party secretariat in Adatan, Abeokuta, on Sunday. He emphasized that NNPP will not tolerate any deviation from the laid-down guidelines and will resist any attempts to compromise the integrity of the electoral process.

"We are here to elect the candidates that will be representing our party during the November 16 local government elections," Aina said. "I must however say that this time around, OGSIEC must not allow any act that could lead to questionable integrity, they should stop it because if they do, we at NNPP will challenge them and ask them questions."

Aina also urged OGSIEC to consult with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a hitch-free election. "We have our reservations as to the way they are going about it, and if they think that they can short-change us, they will have this NNPP to contend with," he added.

In a statement that highlighted the party’s preparedness for the election, Aina said, "Our party is prepared and ready for the challenge, we have been working for about three weeks, we are united and that is why our candidates for the elections are the product of consensus. So, NNPP is not joking at all with this local government election."

The NNPP’s stance is a clear indication that the party is committed to ensuring a free and fair election, and it is willing to take all necessary steps to ensure that its rights are protected. As the election draws near, it remains to be seen whether OGSIEC will heed the party’s warning and conduct the election in a manner that upholds the integrity of the electoral process.
