Heavy Rainfall Expected in Nigeria from Tuesday to Thursday
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather warning, predicting thundery and rainy weather conditions from Tuesday to Thursday across the country. According to the agency’s weather outlook released on Monday in Abuja, thunderstorms are expected to hit various regions throughout the period.
Starting from Tuesday, thunderstorms are forecast to occur over parts of Bauchi, Kebbi, Taraba, Kano, Katsina, Adamawa, and Kaduna states in the morning hours, with the entire region experiencing thunderstorms later in the day. In the North Central region, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Kogi, Benue, Plateau, Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, and Niger states during the morning hours, with more thunderstorms forecast for the afternoon and evening hours.
In the southern region, moderate rains are expected over parts of Ebonyi, Imo, Enugu, Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, and Bayelsa states in the morning hours, transitioning to intermittent rains over the entire region later in the day.
The pattern continues on Wednesday, with thunderstorms forecast over parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, and Kaduna states in the morning hours, and later in the day, over parts of Borno, Gombe, Adamawa, Taraba, Kano, Katsina, and Kebbi states.
On Thursday, thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, Taraba, and Adamawa states in the morning period, with later-in-the-day thunderstorms expected over parts of Borno, Bauchi, Kaduna, Taraba, and Adamawa states. Isolated thunderstorms are also forecast over parts of Osun, Edo, Ondo, Ekiti, Delta, Lagos, Rivers, and Bayelsa states in the morning hours.
The agency has urged residents to take necessary precautions, especially in flood-prone areas, as heavy downpours may lead to urban flooding in major cities. NiMet has also advised the public to stay informed through weather updates and forecasts from their website.
