Nollywood Legend Emmanuel France Passes Away, Cause of Death Unknown

In a shocking announcement, Nigerian filmmaker Olufemi Ogedengbe revealed on Monday, September 16, 2024, that legendary actor Emmanuel France had passed away. France, whose professional career started in Ghana, was a household name in the Nigerian film industry, having featured in dozens of Nollywood films.

Ogedengbe, who worked with France on several projects, including the films "She Is My Sister", "The Director", and "Cross My Sin", described the late actor as a legend and a dear friend. He shared a heartfelt tribute on his Instagram page, remembering their time working together and the impact France had on the industry.

However, the cause of France’s death remains unknown, leaving fans and colleagues stunned and seeking answers.

France’s nationality has been a subject of debate over the years, with many believing him to be a Ghanaian. However, in an interview with Modern Ghana in 2011, the actor clarified his identity, stating that he was a product of a united nation and held a Nigerian passport due to being born in Nigeria.

Born in Nigeria, France studied at the School of Journalism in Accra, Ghana, and joined the Ghana Film Corporation in 1969. He went on to become a prominent figure in the Nollywood industry, featuring in numerous films, including "Cross My Sin", "She Is My Sister", "The Director", "Narrow Escape", "Witches", "Silent Night", "Exile", and many more.

France’s passing is a significant loss to the Nollywood industry, which has already seen the departure of several notable actors this year. As tributes pour in from fans and colleagues, the world mourns the loss of a talented actor and a legend in his own right.

Rest in peace, Uncle Emmanuel France.
