Title: Nigeria’s APM Terminals Records Significant Increase in Non-Oil Exports
Nigeria’s largest container terminal, APM Terminals Apapa, has made a significant impact in the country’s non-oil export trade over the past four years. According to the terminal’s manager, Steen Knudsen, the terminal has witnessed a continuous increase in its export volumes, with a significant surge in 2023.
In the first half of 2024, APM Terminals Apapa recorded 51,000 TEUS (twenty-foot equivalent units) in non-oil cargo exports, representing a 25 percent increase from the 47,000 TEUS recorded in the same period in 2023. Over the past four years, the terminal has seen steady growth in non-oil export cargo, with exports rising from 53,000 TEUS in 2020 to 71,000 TEUS in 2022.
Knudsen attributed the terminal’s success to its partnerships with exporting associations and its commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s non-oil export drive. To drive further growth, the terminal will be hosting its second exporters forum, which aims to facilitate more efficient movement of exports into the ports.
The forum, which was launched in June, provides a platform for exporters, shipping lines, and terminal operators to discuss issues that impede the flow of export cargo into the port. The terminal has received valuable feedback from customers and stakeholders, which will be used to improve operations and streamline processes.
Speaking at the forum, the Head of Commercial, Kayode Daniels, emphasized the importance of collaboration and timely feedback in improving export volumes. “We believe that by working together, we can further strengthen the port’s export process and enhance the overall efficiency of trade,” he said.
In preparation for the coming export season, APM Terminals Nigeria will be proactively reviewing and addressing potential challenges to ensure seamless services to its customers.
By focusing on continuous improvement, APM Terminals Apapa is poised to play a significant role in promoting Nigeria’s non-oil exports and driving economic growth in the country.
